The Dirty Bastard

I love drinks that incorporate ginger. Whether it be in a cocktail or straight up ginger beer, I’m always on the lookout for my next ginger drink.

I stumbled upon this guy when looking for beer cocktails on Pinterest. Originating from Catch NYC in New York City, the Dirty Bastard consists of some very flavourful ingredients and has a kick-ass name to boot – or an inappropriate name depending on your definition.

As our own Bruno noted in his piece a while back, ginger beer brands vary quite a bit with different levels of spice and ginger. For this cocktail, I used Crabbie’s Original, but feel free to experiment with whichever brand you like. Here’s how to make it:

Recipe

1 ½ oz Jameson Irish Whiskey
1 oz freshly squeezed lime juice
¼ oz simple syrup
½ oz ginger beer
5 dashes Angostura bitters

In a cocktail shaker, add ice and all of the ingredients except for the ginger beer. Shake and strain into a short glass or brass mug and top with ginger beer.

You’ll really taste the lime in this one. It’s actually quite overpowering. If you’re not a huge lime fan like me, you can cut it down to a ½ oz. The whiskey will come through a bit more as well.

Either way, I really enjoy this unique cocktail and I hope you do too. And when people ask you what you’re drinking, just tell them you’re a Dirty Bastard – and proud of it.
